Fishing reports have ceased to come to me as overall fishing has been pretty dismal. Minimum water releases from Camanche Dam and low migration returns of Steelhead are certainly factors.

Reminder:  Fishing on the Mokelumne closes at midnight on March 31st. Fishing reopens on the fourth Saturday of May ( 5/24/25).

Although I have not been fishing yet this year due to knee replacement surgery, I have been getting good intel from guides and friends. To summarize, the fishing has been pretty inconsistent, A few nice fish are caught and released but no one sending information to me has had any days with over ten fish. The Steelhead are starting to spawn so if you see fish near fresh redds (nests), please refrain from targeting those fish. Let them make babies for the future.

Tristan and his friend floated the Moke this past week for two days and reported lots of success. He mentioned crazy boat traffic on the river so I assume they fished a weekend. They had success with beads in various colors and patterns along with a variety of nymphs and midges.

Happy New Year!
II wish everyone health, wealth, happiness, and a reasonable amount of water with lots of fish!

Due to knee replacement surgery, I was unable to attend opening day for the first time in 20 years. I had a few friends who sent me some reports and photos to share.

The last salmon count from the Woodbridge Dam Fish Ladder had a cumulative total of over 36K fish. Keeping in mind that the hatchery has limitations on capacity of how many fish they can harvest eggs from. The salmon that don't get access to the hatchery, will spawn in the river and produce wild fish. All this said, please refrain from wading in the river until at least the end of January. We all think we know what salmon redds (nests) look like, but there are so many, you almost can't avoid stepping on them.

The catch & release reports I got were all from fly fisherman. Based on the information I got, there were a few nice fish caught & released.
